PAULETTE REES-DENIS
FOUNDER OF GLOBAL CARAVAN DANCE
Paulette Rees-Denis is the innovator of Global Caravan Dance (Global Caravan Tribal Bellydance TM). Having established this dance format in 1991, in Portland, Oregon, USA.
With a lifelong dance background, Paulette started her bellydance career in her 30’s as one the founding members of Fat Chance Belly Dance (American Tribal Style), studying with Carolina Nerricio in San Fancisco in the mid 1980’s. After moving to Portland she began teaching her own classes and developing this incredible format.
‘Having found my soul dance in the Tribal Style of bellydance, I have created Global Caravan’s unique style, Global Caravan Tribal Belly Dance TM, which is a rich blend of contemporary dance with a universal appeal that is aesthetically pleasing, spiritually grounding, and physically rewarding. This style is based around the ideas, movements, rituals, and history of traditional Middle Eastern Bellydance, combined with other cultures and dance traditions. Our dance evokes a feeling of ancient times. My styling is a fusion of several influences-urban, folk, ritual and trance dances from different countries, as well as contemporary life and dance.’
-Paulette.
After 15 years of establishing this format and travelling and performing with her troupe Gypsy Caravan, in America, she brought Global Caravan Dance to Australia, and in 2006 met Nina Martinez, the beginning of something special and instrumental for the growth of GCD in Australia.
