GC AUSTRALIAN STORY
Global Caravan Dance beginnings in Australia…
It was in 2006 when Paulette Rees Denis was promoting her dance format - Global Caravan Dance, in Australia - that she met Nina Martinez. This was the beginning of something special and a key moment in the future growth of GCD in Australia.
Nina and Paulette’s story -
Nina Martinez’s Global Caravan Dance story begins when she met Paulette Rees Denis in 2006. She had previously done a little of this style of Tribal bellydance with Alaine Casey, but when Alaine brought Paulette to Innisfail in Far North Queensland for a workshop, it was love at first sight.
Nina was invited by Paulette to travel to Melbourne to become a certified Global Caravan Dance teacher, which proved instrumental in promoting the Global Caravan Dance format in Australia.
Paulette continued to visit Australia nearly every/second year for ten years, ensuing a high standard through her teaching. Her philosophy of dance as a way of life resonated with Nina, as she realised her purpose was to continue with this ethic of nurturing community, great technique, the wellbeing dance brings, the magic of a beautiful circle.
Nina travelled extensively to the US from 2010-2019 for GC intensives and teacher training. She wanted to be able to bring her knowledge and gifts back to her Australian dance sisters. It was also incredibly exciting to be able to dance, travel and explore ambitions previously undreamed of.
From 2013 onwards Nina has been initiating, encouraging and fostering the GC Festivals and gatherings around Australia, bringing together sister communities of dance and strengthening our GC Australia dance community.
